Project in brief

Led UX/UI design across web and mobile, applying a scalable design system to support product growth.

Fragmented interfaces and PDF-based tools limited usability, consistency, and scalability.

Aligning complex healthcare workflows with a unified, mobile-first design system.

A consistent, accessible platform that replaces static tools with interactive experiences, creating a strong foundation for ongoing feature expansion.

Boehringer Ingelheim Gunther Soto

Graham was a key contributor to the success of this project, working seamlessly across a predominantly German engineering team while based in the UK. He communicated complex design decisions clearly, built strong relationships quickly, and collaborated effectively across language and cultural differences.

His ability to align design intent with technical constraints helped the team move fast without sacrificing quality, and his structured, thoughtful approach made him a trusted partner to both product and engineering throughout the engagement.

My Role

I led UX/UI design across the Boehringer Ingelheim pet health platform, applying a scalable design system to support both mobile and web products. My role spanned discovery, audit, information architecture, and end-to-end interface design to ensure the product could evolve consistently across multiple touchpoints.

End-to-end experience mapping across owner and vet journeys

Problem

The existing product ecosystem lacked consistency and scalability. Core tools were delivered as PDFs or fragmented interfaces, resulting in poor mobile usability, duplicated design patterns, and limited ability to extend the product as new features were introduced.

This fragmentation made it difficult for veterinary professionals and pet owners to manage reminders, track pet health data, and access key information in a clear, intuitive way.

From Interactive PDF to Scalable Digital Tool

Challenges

  • Inconsistent UI patterns across website and mobile app
  • PDF-based tools not optimised for mobile or interaction
  • Limited design system foundations, slowing iteration and scale
  • Complex user needs, balancing pet owners, vets, and enterprise stakeholders
  • Regulated healthcare environment, requiring clarity, accuracy, and trust

Old versus New UI and UX

Outcome

Delivered a scalable, mobile-first pet health platform by auditing and restructuring the existing web, app and design library.

Replaced static PDF tools with fully responsive, interactive experiences and redesigned key journeys including reminders, weight tracking and calendar scheduling.

Impact

  • +35% increase in mobile task completion
  • -25% drop-off across scheduling and reminder flows
  • -40% usability-related support queries
  • WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility alignment
  • Unified design system reducing UI inconsistencies by 60%

Established a consistent foundation across web and mobile, enabling faster future feature development and a clearer, lower-friction experience for both pet owners and veterinary professionals.
